Chris Coulson

Managing Director, Garden City

Chris Coulson has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Garden City. He will administer the real estate investment and delivery platform for the estate. This role includes the development of the Business Park and ongoing asset management of the shopping mall and residential. Chris brings over twenty years development experience in successfully conceiving, implementing, and delivering challenging real estate projects across all major sectors. Chris also has a wealth of emerging market experience having works in Colombia, Brazil and across Eastern Europe. Prior to joining GC, Chris was a founding partner of Squarepoint Colombia working with institutional funding partners and local development companies focusing on an affordable housing platform, industrial and retail developments. 

 

Formerly a Managing Director for Squarestone Brazil, Chris managed the sourcing and delivery of new retail projects across Brazil including the following two flagship developments:

 

Shopping Golden Square, Sao Paulo – B Class mall with 120,000 m² gross buildable with 31,000 m² of lettable area comprising over 200 retail units. Total development cost of $75 million. The mall successfully opened in October 2013.

 

Shopping Bonsucesso, Guarulhos, Sao Paulo – 25,000 m² of lettable area offering over 160 retail units. Purchased with 100% ownership and a 7,500 m² extension added to create a stronger retail destination. The mall was successfully sold in August 2012 for $ 80 million.

 

Chris worked as in-house Development Director for an affiliate of Marriott International, developing and successfully opening Aruba Surf Club hotel with a total development cost of $200 million.
